It was something very special for me to participate at such a beautiful project. To listen to the songs, to research, to go deep into the proposed universe, so that in a very gentle and subtle way I could connect to Nanni´s energy. This was enough to add colors to what she already had
given movement. It was magical. I felt such a good energy in my heart when I heard this “Our Lady La Antigua” song. I am very much connected to the Virgin Mary, not regarding the images, but regarding the essence of the sacred feminine. I was born and raised in the Amazon, surrounded by a leafy forest, full of rivers, animals, colors … magic all around. In this big womb, which
provides life all year long, manifestations of the “Goddess” are everywhere: in the waters, in the woods, in the abundance of food... I learned with the many women of my family to understand and to respect the several yearly rituals, the monthly ones and the daily ones, rituals that the vast majority of the local population does to thank theGreat Mother. Many people do these rituals without even knowing very
well what they are doing, since this is part of the ancestry of the Amazonian people. It is in our blood, it is in our essence. This is why we honor Nature and its many manifestations of abundance. Through prayers, songs, herbal baths, dances, food etc... we pray and give thanks.
The first of the seven paintings I did was the Virgin Mary. She was a gateway of love and abundance to the other paintings. I then painted
Apachita, Kyrie, Glory, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. This was the first time that I researched and included in my work symbols and colors that are part of the cultural heritage of other places, such as: flowers and colors that are typical of the embroidery art in Panama, Equador and Mexico. Embroideries of “greeks” decorated with Andean symbols are easily found in the fabric and craftsmanship and temples of Peru and Bolivia. So I added all this to my Brazilian root andmy relaxed and joyful way of painting. I did not want to do something dogmatic. Traditional masses are often filled by elements that bring upon sadness, sin and penitence. I wanted to show images that could bring forth some of the essence of Latin peoples, as well as inspire some reflection on the theme.
I thank Nanni for her invitation. And I thank the Universe that put us together to do this art project. I am sure it will bring good energies to
many people. It was all done with lots of love and intention.
